Description
Tamiya 87182 Extra Thin – fast capillary cement for clean joints
Tamiya 87182 Extra Thin is the most popular capillary cement for plastic model kits. Its Quick-Setting formula offers grip in seconds and a weld-like bond on styrene/ABS, leaving neat joints that are ready to sand with minimal bead and shine.
Why choose Tamiya 87182 Extra Thin for your builds
- Extreme capillarity: flows along the seam and penetrates by surface tension without flooding the detail.
- Quick-Setting: initial grab in just a few seconds, reducing the time you need to hold parts.
- Ultra-fine built-in brush: precision on railings, panels, hinges and small parts.
- Professional finish: clean joints that make filling minimal and fine sanding easier.
How to use Tamiya 87182 Extra Thin step by step
- Dry-fit the parts and check the alignment.
- Apply by capillary action: touch the seam with the brush and let Tamiya 87182 Extra Thin flow by itself.
- Hold for 10–20 seconds until you feel it bite; avoid moving the joint for about 1 minute.
- Curing: allow 24 hours for full strength before sanding, stressing or painting.
Typical uses for Tamiya 87182 Extra Thin
- Bodies and hulls (cars/ships): long seams with minimal excess and barely visible joints.
- Super-detailing: hatches, access panels, tools, railings and fine accessories.
- Fast assembly: structural parts that need to be locked in quickly so you can keep building.
Compatibility and limitations
Tamiya 87182 Extra Thin is optimised for PS (styrene) and ABS. It is not suitable for resin, PVC, PE or other plastics that cannot be solvent-welded. For those materials, use cyanoacrylate or epoxy. If you need a slower version with a longer working time, consider the standard Extra Thin (non Quick-Setting).
Workshop tips with Tamiya 87182 Extra Thin
- Fit first: the better the alignment, the less cement you will need.
- Very light applications: it’s better to “touch” the joint several times than to soak the area.
- Sanding at the right time: once cured, use fine sandpaper (800–2000) and hard sanding blocks to erase the seam.
- Build sequence: glue, let cure 24 h, sand, prime with primer and paint with Tamiya X/XF.
Safety and best practice
- Flammable product with fumes: work in a well-ventilated area and use appropriate protection.
- Keep the bottle tightly closed; store away from heat/sparks and out of reach of children.
- Avoid prolonged contact with visible surfaces to prevent unwanted satin marks on the plastic.
